A fire department was called to fight a fire at their own firehouse over the weekend.

The fire broke out at the Mayville Volunteer Fire Department Saturday night around 10:00.

Luckily the blaze was caught early enough that the fire station was saved, but now the clean-up process begins.

The assistant fire chief says it's actually luck that they were notified of this fire.  He said somebody was walking by and saw the orange glow from the garage windows and called 911.

The assistant fire chief also says when he saw the page for the call to his own firehouse, it was a very personal call.

"You hear the page and you kind of take a double take.  You want to replay it and really, did you really hear what you thought you heard is kind of the way to put it," explained Mayville assistant fire chief, Mikell Thoreson.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused that fire in the first place.

The Mayville Fire Department says they will be spending the next week or longer cleaning the equipment, gear and building of all the smoke residue.  They say despite losing the rescue truck in the fire, they are still fully operational and can respond to a call just like before.
