MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Department of Natural Resources says the danger of wildfires remains high in Wisconsin.
The National Weather Service has issued another red flag warning until 7 p.m. Saturday for Douglas, Burnett and Washburn counties in northwestern Wisconsin.
It's the second day in a row for elevated fire conditions in the northwest. The DNR says overnight rainfall did not help reduce the fire threat.
A red flag warning indicates dangerous fire conditions fueled by warm temperatures, low humidity, high winds and exceptionally dry fuels such as grass or trees.
Seventeen fires broke out across Wisconsin Friday. The DNR is prohibiting burning with DNR-issued permits and is asking people to be careful with campfires, outdoor grills, smoking, chain saws or off-road vehicles that could throw off a spark and ignite a fire.
