A woman called 911 Wednesday morning to report that she was trapped inside a burning home, according to a news release from the Sheboygan Fire Department.
The woman could not escape because of heavy smoke in the home, authorities said.
Firefighters got to the scene on the 2300 block of N. 25th St. within three minutes and, after finding smoke and flames, used a bedroom window to rescue the woman, authorities said.
Crews treated the woman, whose age was not provided, for possible smoke inhalation at the scene.
She later went to a hospital.
A firefighter suffered a burn to his wrist.
The woman had been sleeping in a room with a closed door and the home had working fire detectors, authorities said.
The effects of the fire’s heat and smoke were lessened because of the closed door, authorities said.
The closed door and working smoke detectors, along with fire crews’ work on scene, likely saved the woman’s life, authorities said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
