Family of murdered Appleton woman asking for leads from community

Connie Boelter's murder unsolved 10 years later

APPLETON, WI -- The family of a murdered Appleton woman is asking for the public's help in solving the case a decade after the crime.

Back in May, Appleton police confirmed a person of interest in 56-year-old Connie Boelter's case. NBC26 is choosing not to name anyone until formal charges are filed.

For Boelter's children, the past decade has been a journey for peace.

"Ten years later, you're living your lives like everybody else does," says son Mike Boelter, "and that's what our mom would want. She wouldn't want any of us beating our heads against the wall."

But the fight for closure doesn't end.

"We live it everyday. It's part of our everyday lives," explains daughter Dawn Gunderson, "but, it's not for everybody else."

Police discovered Boelter's body 10 years ago in her Appleton home, allegedly killed by blunt force trauma. Investigators believe she knew her killer.

"We're privy to some information that didn't come out in the paper," says Daughter Lynn Kolling, "and we are very hopeful that they are... on the right person. But.. some more information is needed."

"Boelter's family is clear: no amount of information is too old, or insignificant in this case, adding that those are calls best left to police.

"Maybe not take it upon themselves to make that decision," says Gunderson, "but to just turn over the information that they have, and let the police department decide."

In an effort to remind people what's at stake if justice goes unserved, Boelter's children are asking people to make the case personal.

"Somebody made the decision that she didn't deserve to live anymore. That's not right," says Gunderson, "and so... people.. maybe just make it a little personal. Make it that person who is most dear in your life."
