Jayme Closs's great uncle lives in Manitowoc. Edward Downing says he prays multiple times a day that Jayme Closs is safe. He says all the family can hope for right now is that whoever may have her releases her unharmed.
Downing has lived in Manitowoc for around 40 years. He says the last time he saw the Closs family was three months ago for a family wedding.
When she disappeared, Downing says he didn't want to believe it at first. It’s been more than 48 hours since Closs disappeared. He describes Jayme as a shy but kind person who was friends with everyone she met and always had a big smile on her face.
"She was very good in school, lots of friends in school,” said Downing. “The kind of person you really liked to know because every time you see her she had a big smile for you. She would come up and talk, same with her mom, they were a good family, really good family.”
Downing hopes everyone keeps his family in their thoughts and prayers. He says he wants everyone to cherish the times they spend with loved ones because that is what he says matters most.
