RACINE, Wis. (AP) -- Racine police say a family dog has bitten and seriously injured a 1-year-old boy.
The child was flown Thursday night to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa after being bitten in the head.
Racine police and paramedics were called to the home at 7 p.m.
The child's grandfather told first responders the family's 6-year-old American bulldog boxer bit the boy in the face and head while the child was playing on the floor.
The grandfather had to pry the dog off the boy's head. Police say the boy suffered severe head trauma.
Police say citations will be issued to the dog's owner for having no proof of vaccination and no dog license. A police news release did not say who owned the dog.
