DE PERE, Wis—A family of four were able to escape an overnight basement fire early Tuesday morning.
It happened around 1:50 a.m. on the 2000 block of E. Vista Circle.
When crews arrived they found smoke on the main floor of the home.
The owner of the home says he was awakened from sleep by smoke alarms, and noticed smoke coming up the basement steps.
The fire caused moderate smoke damage to the basement.
Damage is estimated around $10,000.
The family was also able to save their two cats.
