The sirens sounds... You're at an outdoor event... What do you?
For Linda Kollman with the Winnebago County Emergency Management that's a bit late to start thinking of a plan you should have one the moment you know bad weather is a possibility
"Have a plan know your surroundings and make timely decisions don't wait until it's a warning." Says Kollman.
She's works with festivals like Country USA to make sure everyone stays safe.
"Country USA does have a private forecaster on grounds to make sure they are constantly able to monitor the weather" Kollman adds.
Derek Liebhauser with Country USA is sure they're ready for the weather
"For months prior to the events were required to put Ina plan for severe weather weather and things like evacuations" Says Liebhauser.
That plan includes having sheriff deputies alert people when the weather is too bad and possible evacuating the event but also a portable tornado siren to alert of any danger.
But what happens if you're caught off guard and and there's no shelter to be found like at Country USA?
According to the Red Cross is you are in an area where there are no ditches like his one here it's best to get in your car and get under your dashboard so your airbags deploy and protect you in case of a tornado.
Technology is another tool that helps to make sure everyone stays safe
There are so many ways you can stay informed about the weather like apps you can download to look at radars" Kollman adds.
Even with emergency management plans its best if you have a plan as well.
