Eagle Tower deconstruction delayed until fall

Posted

Eagle Tower at Peninsula State Park will now be deconstructed in mid-September. The tower was originally scheduled for deconstruction in mid-July, however the DNR had challenges finding an experienced contractor and the necessary equipment needed.

The tower will remain closed until deconstruction begins.

The tower was closed to public use in May 2015 after an inspection report raised concerns about its structural integrity. An inspection by the U.S. Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory found considerable deterioration of the structural and non-structural wood members.

Plans are to deconstruct the existing tower and build a new structure to look as similar as possible to the existing tower. Building codes, Americans with Disabilities Act requirements and new technologies are all being taken into consideration.

Funds to rebuild the tower are being raised but the Eagle Tower fund Committee.
