After more than 20 crashes and slide offs in Brown County overnight, driving conditions improved Tuesday evening after the freezing rain.
Public Works Departments across Northeast Wisconsin laid salt throughout the early morning. Many side streets were still slick on Tuesday, but the major highways were running smooth.
"My travel this morning, I saw one car in the ditch and there were plenty of other events this year where I saw a lot more cars in the ditch than this morning," said Randy Asman, a Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) Traffic Engineer.
The biggest problem for most people Tuesday was ice-covered driveways and sidewalks.
"We went over to the hardware store to get some salt and the roads weren't too bad, and then I just prayed that I could get back onto the driveway," said Carrie Calaway of Howard.
Despite improving driving conditions, the DOT is reminding everyone to drive slowly and check the 511 resource tool, with a live traffic and road condition map, before heading out on the roads. You can find that website here.
