Many people will see the first big snowfall of the season from the comforts of home, but Brown County DPW crews will be out making sure the roads are safe.

When the DPW decides the time is right, they send out more than a dozen plows to local streets. The number of plows can go into the 40's during the day.

Crews have already put down brine on major bridges to try to stop snow and ice from sticking.

Then, throughout the snowfall they attack the roads, keeping them plowed and dropping salt..

DPW officials said during this storm and others, you can help them help you.

"There's a lot that those plow drivers have to operate, and on top of all that they're weaving in and out of traffic," DPW's Paul Fontecchio said. "Give them lots of room, stay behind them, just stay away from them."

While the DPW gears up to fight the season's first big snowfall, some kids are eagerly awaiting the chance to play in the snow.

People said snow is one of the best ways to get into the holiday spirit.

"I don't think it'd be Christmas without snow on the ground, so it always feels nice to get that first clean blanket on the ground," Patrick Johnson said.

Some kids said they're excited because snow usually means winter, which for them, also means winter break and no school.
