A Dodge County Deputy will return to full duty after the Wisconsin Department of Justice concluded his actions were justified in connection with a fatal shooting in August.
Sgt. Joseph Nicholas shot and killed James Quealy during an incident in Beaver Dam on August 5, 2016. Sgt. Nicholas was the responding deputy to the call which was later described as a suicide by cop situation.
In a news release, Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt stated; "Sgt. Nicholas is a valued member of the Sheriff's Office who was forced to make a very difficult decision to protect himself, his fellow law enforcement officers and the community as a whole."
Sheriff Schmidt also expressed sympathy to Quealy's family.
