The DNR is calling the sturgeon spearing season a success.
It's surprisingly good news despite poor water quality, deteroriating ice, and four days in a row of not a single fish being harvested.
DNR sturgeon biologist Ryan Koenigs says he's happy with the season because more than 5,000 shanties were on the Lake Winnebago system.
That's the second highest count in history.
Koenigs says this was also the second best season since 1955 for the number of fish over one-hundred pounds.
