OCONTO FALLS, WI---- As hunters head out this weekend for the gun-deer season, the DNR is sending out another warning on chronic wasting disease.
However, testing may backtrack with a new deer hunting practice.
Hunters can now register online instead of bringing carcasses in to a registration station. Wildlife supervisors say this could cause CWD testing to dwindle as prevalence of the disease in our state grows.
So the DNR is asking hunters to do their part.
“We need statewide vigilance on watching for CWD even in parts of the state that don't have the disease and that means looking for animals that have the clinical signs," says wildlife supervisor Jeff Pritzl,.
The DNR hopes hunters will supply them with at least 4,000 deer for sampling.
