A 47-year-old motorcycle passenger died Sunday morning after a chain-reaction crash, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.

A Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by 73-year-old Darlene Erickson, was stopped eastbound on Hwy. 21, waiting for traffic to clear before turning left onto Reighmoor Rd. in Omro, according to a news release.

A Jeep Compass, with a 42-year-old driver, was also eastbound on Hwy. 21, and its driver attempted to go around the Chevrolet but the Jeep hit the Chevrolet, which pushed the Chevrolet into oncoming traffic and into the path of a motorcycle, driven by 48-year-old Billy Luke, authorities said.

Luke and his wife, 47-year-old Justine Luke, were thrown from the motorcycle, authorities said.

Billy Luke suffered serious injuries, while his wife died at the scene, authorities said.

Erickson and the Jeep driver were treated for minor injuries, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
