The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office says speed and unsafe passing were factors in a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and farm tractor.

The crash happened Saturday afternoon on U.S. 151 in the Township of Taycheedah.

A northbound motorcycle, driven by a 49-year-old Chilton man, passed another northbound vehicle pulling a horse trailer and had to swerve back into the northbound lane because a southbound vehicle was approaching. Once the vehicle went by, the motorcyclist speed up again to pass a farm tractor, driven by a 36-year-old Plymouth man. As the tractor was beginning to turn into a field entrance, Police say the motorcyclist hit the farm tractor, ejecting the man and his passenger.

The passenger, a 47-year-old Chilton woman was taken via Theda Star helicopter to Theda Clark Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the motorcycle died at the scene. The tractor driver was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff Office. Speed and unsafe passing are considered to be a factors in the crash.
