Dealing with the Packers Loss

Posted

GREEN BAY, Wis.- For Tracie Bryfczynski, manager of The Jersey Store near Lambeau Field, the Packers play a big part in her sales.

"The thing is we always like it when our team wins, sales are always good when the team wins," said Bryfczynski.

She says a loss like the one on Thanksgiving night is especially hard to take.

"You know it was a special event to see Bart Starr at the game as well as legendary Brett Favre all in town, so this loss was a little bitter I think." said Bryfczynski.

Despite the loss, Packers fans are still buying gear, but they're out of towner.  Bryfczynski says when the team loses, sales decline.

"You can definitely tell that there is a slight trend on the downward spiral," said Bryfczynski.

A loss by the Green and Gold can also impact your psychological state.

"We define ourselves by the groups that we are part of," said UW-Green Bay professor of psychology, Regan A. R. Gurung.

That means if you're a hard core Packer Backer and the team loses, you could feel bad about that and in turn feel bad about yourself.

"Feeling bad is natural.  I mean when you care about something and they lose I mean it's really natural the key is then to acknowledge the source and find a way to cope with it," said Dr. Gurung.

Despite the loss many fans are taking that advice, backing a team they say they believe can still go all the way.
