The Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department responded to a structure fire in the 800 Block of Dewey Street Friday around 8:30 p.m.

Crews say everyone inside the home got out safely.

MFRD crews deployed hose lines and began to attack the fire which they say started in the kitchen on a stove top. Crews say there was smoke damage throughout the entire house.

Crews explain people inside heard smoke detectors and got out.

As a reminder from the Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department, never leave food unattended on the stove when cooking. Also, they add, smoke detectors do save lives and provide time to escape the hazards of fire.
