Cracking down on drunk drivers

Posted

WRIGHTSTOWN, WI----  It's a growing problem in our state so law enforcement agencies are doing what they can to crack down on drunk driving.

Officers across the state will step up patrols the next few weeks as part of their drive sober or get pulled over campaign.

“Get people thinking about it just because we see more activity during this time of year," says Mike Panosh with the Wisconsin DOT.

Thats why the state is beginning their “drive sober or get pulled over” campaign to cut down on the 162 people killed in alcohol related crashes in Wisconsin this past year.

“Try and take a proactive approach," says Trooper Mark Haessly.

This comes as there is legislation moving forward in Madison. A “five strikes and you’re out” bill passed committee this week.

“Make sure we make this change an absolute revocation of drivers license is an important and necessary step to address this issue," says Rep. David Steffen of Howard.

The campaign starts tonight and ends on January 3rd.
