Cracking down on cyberbullying

Posted

FREEDOM, WI--- Two Sevastopol students could face charges of disorderly conduct following an alleged bullying incident caught on camera.

Investigators say an 18 year old student with special needs has bruises from the incident.

The video was posted on one of those students’ social media accounts bringing to light a growing problem of cyber bullying.

School districts in northeast Wisconsin continue to update their bullying policies.

“It defines it very well in the policy itself now whereas before it was just considered bullying," says Freedom Schools District Administrator Kevin Kilstofte.

To ensure all districts follow suit, Rep. Eric Genrich of Green Bay is on board with a bill updating the Department of Public Instruction's model policy.

“Creates an additional requirement that cyber bullying needs to be into account and associate some penalties with that kind of behavior," say Genrich.

The bill also calls for the model policy to include a requirement that a school administrator must contact law enforcement if they believe a bullying incident violates the law.
