OSHKOSH, Wis. - Country USA comes to Oshkosh June 20th through June 24th, 2017. It's a fun-filled week for country music lovers, but there a lot of concerns over underage drinking and drunken driving.
It's an issue every year that continues to increase. State Troopers are increasing patrols around the grounds to target drunk drivers. Law Enforcement say they're especially concerned with the recent trend of drunk drivers leaving Country USA events who are not of legal age to drink alcohol.
"We have really noticed an uptick in underage drinking at Country USA. Unfortunately, those not of legal age to drink are making the deadly decision to get behind the wheel as well," said Sergeant Tim McGrath, Wisconsin State Patrol, Fond du Lac Post. "Law enforcement officers are well trained in identifying the signs of impaired driving, and they know where and when to look for drunken drivers."
By law, Police say people under 21-years of age will be given a citation for a violation of absolute sobriety and possibly an OWI. To help combat drunken driving, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation offers a free "Zero in Wisconsin Drive Sober" mobile app. Clickhere to download from the app store, click here to download form google play
It includes a 'Find a Ride' feature along with a blood alcohol estimator and interactive games that can help determine whether drivers should give up their keys.
