NEENAH, WI -- New details are emerging behind the shooting death of Michael Funk during a hostage situation.
Funk was killed during a hostage situation at Eagle Nation Cycles, in Neenah, on December 5th.
The Department of Justice is still investigating this case.
Tonight, the Winnebago County coroner tells NBC26 Funk died at the scene, and did not receive medical treatment.
In coroner Barry Busby's own words, "no lifesaving measures were performed because he was obviously deceased."
This is contrary to a police statement on the day of the shooting in which Neenah Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson says Gold Cross provided care, and Funk later died at the hospital.
In a statement to NBC26 today, Wilkinson says:
"It was my understanding at the time of my statement that Gold Cross had provided care. If they did not, then that's my error. Those early press release / briefings were based on limited information available at the time."
In response, Cole White, the lawyer for Funk's Family says "How did he not know that an individual at his scene that he's in control of with his officers was not receiving medical care?"
We also now know Funk's body was removed from the scene, to a safe area, using a protective armored vehicle.
It's still not clear whether Funk died as a result of police opening fire, or shots fired from the suspect.
More details are set to be released with the full investigative report.
