Wisconsin surpasses 6,000 coronavirus deaths

MADISON (NBC 26) — Wisconsin has passed another grim milestone in the coronavirus pandemic: more than 6,000 people have now died from the virus in the state since the pandemic began.

The state Department of Health Services reported 28 new coronavirus-related deaths on Friday, bringing the state's total death toll to 6,020.

This is in addition to 1,266 new cases of coronavirus reported in Wisconsin on Friday, bringing the state's total number of COVID-19 cases to 548,221. The percentage of cases listed as recovered is also slowly climbing; it was at 96% as of Friday.

The number of people ever hospitalized in Wisconsin due to coronavirus was 24,734 as of Friday, an increase of 100.
