MADISON (NBC 26) — Wisconsin's number of new coronavirus cases reported daily continues to head downward, but the numbers are still higher than case numbers reported earlier in the year.

Data reported Monday from the state Department of Health Services shows only 1,435 new cases of coronavirus. The seven-day average was 2,816. The number of new cases reported Monday was nearly 400 cases fewer than Sunday's numbers.

The number of new cases Monday was also significantly lower that the spike seen in November. Numbers from DHS show a decline since the November spike.

Eight more deaths related to coronavirus were reported Monday, bringing the death toll to 4,425. The number of people ever hospitalized due to the virus increased by 48 on Monday, raising the total to 20,168.
