MADISON (NBC 26) -- For a third time this week, the number of new coronavirus cases in Wisconsin was more than 1,000.

1,018 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Friday by the state Department of Health Services. The number of negative test results was also high, with 16,438 negative tests reported.

The percentage of tests returning a positive result was 5.8%, not the lowest number reported this week, but a dip from yesterday.

Despite the high numbers, the state didn't report any new deaths from coronavirus on Friday. The total death toll for Wisconsin remains at 878.

Wisconsin now has 46,917 positive cases of coronavirus in the state, with 77% of those cases recovered. There are currently 9,688 active coronavirus cases in Wisconsin.

Brown County still has a high number of cases, but new numbers show it's now the county with the third highest number of cases, behind Dane and Milwaukee counties.
