The rise in new and active COVID-19 cases is causing concerns and warnings from national health officials.
According to a new White House Coronavirus Task Force Report, Wisconsin ranks fourth in the nation for new cases, nearly three times the national average.
New cases of coronavirus in Wisconsin topped 3,000 for the second day in a row on Wednesday.
In the most recent reporting period, state health officials recorded 3,107 positive tests. Total positive tests are nearing 160,000 in Wisconsin since the pandemic began.
The state has averaged 2,500 cases a day and hospitalizations have tripled in the past three weeks.
Of those cases, 27 percent are from Milwaukee, Brown and Winnebago counties. In the White House report, it blames the rise in cases on "low adherence to mitigation measures" to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. These measures included wearing a mask, physical distancing and limiting indoor gathering sizes.
Officials cited in the report said, "lack of compliance with these measures will lead to preventable deaths."
On Wednesday, a Sawyer County judge temporarily blocked Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers from attempting to reduce indoor gatherings and limit bar and restaurant capacity to 25 percent. Evers said he plans on challenging the ruling.
