Wisconsin COVID numbers tick downward Monday, health officials still urge caution

MADISON (NBC 26) -- While the latest coronavirus numbers were again lower Monday, health officials are still urging the public to take precautions.

Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported 2,534 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the state total number of confirmed cases to 387,235. The state's recovery percentage ticked up to 81%. Six more deaths were reported Monday related to coronavirus.

The number of people ever hospitalized in Wisconsin due to COVID rose to 17,095, an increase of 96. Along with the new numbers, Wisconsin DHS said Monday that hospitals across the state report 16% of beds are available.

Health officials continue ask the public to help stop the spread of coronavirus by wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing. On Sunday, Dr. Deborah Birx, coordinator of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, warned Americans who traveled for Thanksgiving and attended a large gathering that they should assume they were infected with the coronavirus and get tested.
