FOND DU LAC (NBC 26) -- Some people who recently tested positive for COVID-19 told health officials they thought they had seasonal allergies, but then they tested positive for the virus, health officials said Tuesday.
In a Facebook live from the Fond du Lac County Health Department, Kim Mueller, the county health officer, said many of the county's new coronavirus cases were people who attended recent birthday parties or other gatherings such as funerals.
"In interviewing our cases, we are currently identifying that people are saying that they went to a party because they thought they had seasonal allergies, later to find out they get a COVID test and it comes back positive," Mueller said. Mueller noted the pollen count is currently high.
Mueller said people are experiencing symptoms that could commonly be mistaken for COVID-19. She recommends if you are experiencing symptoms and are unsure if they're allergies or coronavirus, you should get tested. People wishing to learn more about getting tested in Fond du Lac County are asked to call 844-225-0147.
Mueller didn't say in the update how many of the new coronavirus cases were people who thought they had allergies.
Fond du Lac County saw 25 more cases over the holiday weekend, bringing the county's total to 182.
