Local law enforcement says criminals are taking advantage of the fear and uncertainty that comes with the coronavirus pandemic.

Recently, Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office warned the public about scammers targeting people working from home.

The Green Lake County Sheriff's Office said in a statement it has received reports of car break-ins and potential burglaries. Green Lake County has also received reports of scams related to COVID-19.

"It's simple, if something seems too good to be true, it is!" Green Lake County Sheriff's Office said. "DON'T buy gift cards, DON'T wire money, DON'T buy test kits, and DON'T give out any personal information."

You can keep thieves at bay by locking up your homes and vehicles, and hanging up on every scam call. Take any valuables out of your vehicles, and secure anything you normally keep outside.

If you suspect you have received a scam call, or if you notice something suspicious, contact your local law enforcement.
