SUAMICO (NBC 26) -- The NEW Zoo announced Monday it is canceling two spring events due to coronavirus.
The zoo said this year’s annual springtime events, EggStravaganZoo and Party for the Planet, are canceled as a result of the COVID-19 business closures. These events were originally scheduled for April 11th and 25th, respectively.
The zoo acknowledges in a statement that these events are family traditions for many. The zoo plans to hold a “zooper-duper” grand reopening event in the future, as soon as the Zoo can open once again.
In the meantime, the zoo says caring for the animals in the facility continues to be its highest priority. Employees are still working full-time to feed and care for the animals.
While NEW Zoo is closed, it is still offering ways for people to see some of the animals from home. The zoo is offering a livestream of the otter pond, where you can watch them eat breakfast each morning around 7:00 a.m. and lunch each day around noon.
