New record: Wisconsin reports 5,262 new COVID-19 cases, 64 new deaths

MADISON (NBC 26) -- The latest coronavirus numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services have surpassed previous state records.

Wisconsin DHS reported 5,262 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, the state's highest number of reported cases in a single day since the pandemic began. The seven-day average was 3,975.

Wisconsin also broke a grim record Tuesday of newly reported deaths related to coronavirus. The death toll is now 1,852, an increase of 64.

There are now 206,311 total confirmed cases of coronavirus in the state. The recovery percentage of those cases remains at 78%.

The number of people in Wisconsin ever hospitalized due to coronavirus increased Tuesday by 220.
