MENASHA (NBC 26) -- A day after the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled against Governor Tony Evers' Safer at Home, Menasha's public health officer issued a Safer at Home order for the city.

The new order, effective Thursday morning, will adopt the state's previously imposed Safer at Home order, as well as the Badger Bounce Back program, which allows for a gradual lifting of restrictions on businesses and gatherings.

Menasha follows Brown County and Appleton in extending the Safer at Home order to their respective communities. Both Brown County and Appleton said they would continue to follow Safer at Home protocols following the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling that came down Wednesday evening.

The original state order went into effect on March 25 and was originally expected to expire on April 24, but Gov. Tony Evers extended the order until May 26. Republican legislators filed a lawsuit challenging the order, arguing that Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Andrea Palm exceeded her authority when she extended the order.

According to the state Supreme Court decision, Palm's Emergency Order was declared "unlawful, invalid and unenforceable."
