GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- As parents look ahead to the return to school with mask requirements, we wanted to get some answers from an expert.
Dr. Paul Casey is the head of Green Bay's Emergency Medicine for Bellin Health and has treated 40 coronavirus patients in Green Bay. NBC 26 asked him about the effectiveness of cloth masks.
"I see, we see a lot of patients coming through the emergency room wearing cloth masks and a lot of them are very dirty,” said Dr. Casey. “That's kind of defeating the purpose of wearing cloth masks if they're always dirty. So, they should be really laundered every day."
In addition to washing in the hottest water setting possible, Dr. Casey encourages people to only put on or take off masks by the ear loops to avoid contamination.
