MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers said he will be issuing a new public health emergency that extends the statewide mask mandate for another two months.
The current mask mandate is set to expire on Jan. 19. The Wisconsin Supreme Court is currently weighing a challenge to that mask mandate.
The court struck down the governor's 'Safer at Home' order last May, arguing his administration overstepped its authority when it extended the COVID-19 order without consulting the legislature.
Since last spring, Gov. Evers has issued three public health emergencies, among a number of other, coronavirus-related orders. Evers issued the first mask mandate in July.
Also on Friday, Evers announced that Wisconsin is launching a mobile coronavirus vaccination program next week to be operated by the Wisconsin National Guard and health officials.
Evers says nine mobile labs will be dispatched across the state starting on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
“It has always been our goal to get folks vaccinated as quickly, safely, and equitably as possible,” said Gov. Evers. “These mobile vaccination teams are going to help us do just that by continuing to expand vaccine distribution across our state, leveraging partnerships and our best resources to meet folks where they are in their own communities.”
