Flags ordered at half-staff for first responder who died after contracting COVID-19

MADISON (NBC 26) -- Gov. Tony Evers ordered flags at half-staff Thursday in honor of a first responder who died after contracting COVID-19.

Executive Order No. 96 orders the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff in honor of Cpt. Kelly Lynn Raether of the town of Ixonia Fire & EMS.

A news release from the Governor's office said Raether died on Nov. 26 after contracting COVID-19. The news release states she contracted the virus while in the line of duty as she responded to the emergency medical needs of a COVID-19 patient.

The Governor's statement said Raether worked as an emergency medicine technician for 15 years and was also a professor of nursing.

Executive Order No. 96 is effective immediately and ends at sunset on Sat., Dec. 5.
