APPLETON (NBC 26) -- Appleton confirmed its eighth case of coronavirus on Friday.

The city said this is the first new case since April 6. In a Facebook post, the City of Appleton said the affected person lives in the Outagamie County portion of the city. The case was acquired through community spread.

"Our health department is conducting contact investigations to identify and follow-up with any people who had close contact with the ill individual," the post said. "Close contacts will be educated about self-monitoring their health status by our health department nurses. They will be required to do daily symptom and temperature checks; as well as quarantine themselves for 14 day as a precaution."

The city says out of the eight cases, two cases are active, five people are now out of isolation and one person has died.
