It was a day of fishing and fun Monday for Green Bay area children who had the opportunity to go fishing with members of the Green Bay Police Department.

The department reintroduced the "Cops and Bobbers" initiative in 2017, which brings officers and children together for a day of fishing, community pride, food and prizes at Izaak Walton Pond in Bellevue.

Children were paired with an officer, and members of the Southwest High School varsity football leadership group attended as well.

The program helps kids see officers as people they can go to for help.

"If they have any problems at home or at school, they're being bullied, they can come to an officer, the school resource officer, and they can talk to them," said Officer Bob Matheny, a Community Officer with Green Bay Police.

Each child received a fishing rod and tackle box for participating.
