A Lawrence University student is preparing for his football game this weekend, but it wasn't the only thing on his mind Wednesday.
His family waits for Hurricane Irma in Florida, while two people on the southern side of Puerto Rico, shared their experience of the hurricane.
"I'm calm," said Martha Figueroa, who lives in Puerto Rico. "I have a lot of faith in God that if something happens, it's not going to be something bad, bad, bad, bad."
She said residents on the coast were told to go to shelter.
Alexander Roman, who also live in Puerto Rico, said they've lost power .
"They're scared," he said. "It's very serious. Also upset because it's very difficult living without energy."
Florida now braces for the storm.
Peter Bukszar was thinking about the safety of his family back in Naples.
The sophomore plays football for Lawrence University. He thought of his family at home as he prepares for an upcoming game this weekend.
"Asked my dad and my sister to drive up here and just watch the game as a opposed to being there throughout it, but my dad doesn't want to come up," he said. "So he's just staying at home with my dog and then my sister is going to the shelter with my mom."
He said his parents, like many others along the coast, prepared for the storm by boarding windows and buying supplies.
He said his mother, who works at a local hospital, would be working during the storm, and she was planning to bring his sister to keep her safe.
"She's pretty nervous," Peter said. "I have a feeling she'd rather be up here with me and my brother than going through the hurricane, but I think she'll be in a safe place being in the hospital."
Peter said his parents were happy they prepared by getting gas and water because now supplies are running short.
