Commute to work rough, but better than trip home

Posted
The drive to work should be easier than Monday's difficult trip home in Wisconsin where heavy, blowing snow and sleet caused hundreds of accidents and slowed travel to a crawl in some places.

More than 11 inches of snow fell in Green Bay, more than 9 inches in Fond du Lac and 7 to 10 inches to the west. The storm also stranded air travelers at airports in Wisconsin.

Milwaukee County employees were sent home early Monday as road conditions deteriorated. County offices are expected to reopen Tuesday morning.

The state Department of Transportation urged drivers to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. State troopers and sheriff's deputies handled more than 300 accidents on interstate and state highways, mainly in the Milwaukee and Madison area.
