The Coast Guard urged people to avoid the Lake Michigan shoreline Thursday.
High winds and heavy surf created dangerous conditions.
The Coast Guard advised the public to exercise caution and stay away from beaches and off rocks, jetties and piers.
They say large waves crashing in these areas can quickly and unexpectedly sweep people into the cold water and out into the lake.
