Clinton, Obama still planning campaign stop in Green Bay, says White House

Region will be "key" in winning state, say leaders

GREEN BAY, WI -- Hillary Clinton still plans to bring her campaign message to Northeast Wisconsin, one week after she and President Obama canceled an event in Green Bay.

The White House confirmed today that it's working to reschedule a Clinton campaign event with President Obama in Titletown, after they canceled their stop on June 15th event following the Orlando shooting.

Last week's planned visit would've been Obama and Clinton's first stop together since he endorsed her. But Democrats say they hope their next stop is one of many.

White House spokespeople were making the president's intentions clear today.

"We don't have it on the books yet," says spokesperson Josh Earnest, "but the president is quite enthusiastic about Secretary Clinton's campaign."

At the Democratic Party of Brown County's headquarters, in Green Bay, vice chair Rich Langan says  "we're energized. We're ready to go."

Langan says he can't stress enough the significance of the region to this year's election.

"If you want to win Wisconsin, you've got to win Northeastern Wisconsin," says Langan. "We're traditionally a very purple state. If we get the vote out, we're going to win Northeastern Wisconsin."

Langan says Clinton's scheduled visit last week came with just a 5-day notice.

"Where that venue was, I have no idea," he adds, laughing.

He and other organizers are expecting a similar approach from Clinton and Obama this time around, which means they have to be ready to put their 417 members, and volunteers, into action.

"We probably fill this house up about 4 times a week," adds Langan, as volunteers make calls behind him.

But some staunch Bernie Sanders supporters aren't sold on Clinton yet, though Langan says he's convinced they'll win them over eventually.

"And I think that's going to happen," says Langan.

Meanwhile, police say they're preparing for a hectic campaign season in the region.

"The number one goal is public safety," says Green Bay Police Capt. Kevin Warych, "and, public safety encompasses traffic… pedestrian traffic… people gathering for whatever event."

With so much riding on the region this election year, party leaders on both sides expect big celebrity supporters to pay a visit to cities, like Green Bay and Appleton, before November."

"I think we're going to see a lot of people coming," says Langan. "In the last presidential campaign, we had Peter Yarrow, from Peter, Paul, and Mary, we had Danny DeVito, Joe Biden's son… Beau Biden."

Former president George W. Bush will also reportedly visit the badger state, campaigning for Senator Ron Johnson.
