A local company is working to make the season brighter for those forced to spend the holidays away from loved ones.
"The Family" radio station announced the beginning of the 19th annual Christmas Care Gift Drive today.
They're encouraging people to fill a wrapped shoe box with new, warm gloves or socks, or a fun toy. The donations will be handed out to people spending the holidays in 35 different area shelters and emergency rooms from Green Bay to Fond Du Lac.
Heidi Prahal, a donor and event organizer, says the response each year has been overwhelming positive.
"Every year we get 'thank you notes' back from the crisis agencies and the emergency rooms telling stories from people who quietly, with tears streaming down their face, say I haven't received a gift in five years."
If you would like to make a difference, you can drop off your donation in a wrapped shoebox at Woodmans, Pizza Ranch, and Pet Supplies Plus in Appleton.
You can donate through December 7th.
