Chaos in courtroom at sentencing

Posted

Emotions were flying high as Mastella Jackson, who was convicted of murdering her husband Derrick Whitlow nearly 5 years ago, was sentenced to life in prison.

In court Thursday, Whitlow's brother James lunging out of his chair attempting to attack his brother's killer.

It got so intense several people had to hold him back. Everyone was told to leave the courtroom. Screaming wasn't the only emotion filling the room. Tears were also present.

"Snoop as we call him, was like a brother to me,” said one family friend.

Family and friends voiced their frustration to their loved one's killer.

"She doesn't deserve to be able to be free. They didn't get a chance to fight back. Her children didn't get a chance to fight back, so she shouldn't have that chance, said Whitlow’s sister-in-law.

Jackson begged  the judge to go easier on her for her kids

"I don't have a strong support system as far as a family and stuff like that. There is no one there. My children are all i have,” said Jackson.

She asked for one last chance.

"Will the court please have mercy on me and grant me an opportunity at parole, so I can be here with my children,” said Jackson.

The judge still stood firm and sentenced her to life in prison.

Mastella Jackson is eligible for parole after 35 years from the day the murder happened back in February of 2012.
