Cars getting pulled out following spring...

Posted

APPLETON, Wis.- Up and down Interstate 41 about a dozen cars sit in the ditch from Green Bay to Appleton.

"The sheriff's department had a tow ban on highway 41 up until about 10AM," said Dave Zentner, owner of Zentner's Auto Service.

Zentner says his business has been busy.  Nearly every lift at his garage has a car on it, many of which have storm damage.

"Four vehicles with bent rims or broken wheels and bent rims and suspension problems from hitting curbs," said Zentner.

For tow drivers like Steve Huss of Recker's Towing he says with the tow ban lifted he's hoping things pick up.

"We've had a half dozen winch outs mainly out on the countries," said Huss, manager of Recker's Light Duty Towing.

Huss believes the slow morning is because most people stayed off the roads during the storm.

"Everything was shut down almost a day before, we knew yesterday already that the schools were closed today and once the schools are closed there goes half of your AM traffic," said Huss.

Even though business may be slower than normal with this storm, it's not a bad thing.

"In this line of work the business that comes in because of it is helpful, but you don't want to see people hurt," said Zentner.

Tow drivers ask that if you see them on the road, move over.  They say with this wet, heavy snow they need room to pull cars out of ditches.
