LaGrange, IN -- A butcher in Indiana has found a way to repurpose blood from animals he cuts and serves up. He uses it for art.
The owner of Butcher Bob's, Bob Long, and his crew will turn your livestock into cuts of meat.
This shop is very different from most, it has artwork on the walls.
The art is made with blood.
Long has been butchering for decades, but 3 years ago he wanted a hobby.
"I just felt like doing it. I don't know. I just felt like, I wonder what would happen if I took blood and put it on canvas and started painting with it. I wonder how it would turn out," said Long.
Long is a husband, a father of three and a Christian. Many of his pieces reflect that. He has several paintings of angels.
He admits it's not for everyone and it is certainly not for the faint of heart.
"Why waste any of the animal you know? I've got plenty of blood. Why not start doing something with it? I thought let's put it on canvas and see what happens. Some of the paintings have turned out pretty neat," said Long.
After Long is finished, and the paintings are dry, he puts a clear gloss coat over them.
Long's work has appeared in galleries and shows.
In fact, some of his smaller canvases have sold for about $400.
