The Brown County bomb squad was called to the Fond du Lac Fire Department after a resident found potentially explosive materials while cleaning out a home...and brought them to the department seeking help disposing of them.
If you find old ammunition, gun powder, fireworks, etc. don't transport them to the FD/PD in your car. Call 9-1-1 and let us come to you.

The whole ordeal took about 5 hours to clear. Once the man told fire officials, they immediately called Fond du Lac Police who notified the bomb squad.
Fond du Lac Fire Chief Peter O'Leary says the man had some fireworks, detonators, and some kind of liquid in his truck. When combined it could be a potential explosion, especially after being transported in a car.
The bomb squad examined the materials and determined it was safe for them to be taken away in a squad car to a remote location where technicians could make sure the materials were no longer dangerous.
A similar situation happened in the spring when someone found old ammunition and brought it to Fond du Lac City Hall, which caused much of the area to be shut down. In that case, the round was determined to be a dud.
