BloodCenter of Wisconsin sending blood to help Hurricane Harvey victims

Posted

In response to the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, BloodCenter of Wisconsin is sending blood to help a critical blood shortage in Texas.

All blood collections in Houston have been canceled and donor centers closed because vehicles can't reach blood drive locations.

As a result, blood centers across the country are sending blood to Texas to help victims. About 1,000 units of blood products have been sent already, but another 1,000 more is needed.

BloodCenter of Wisconsin already sent one shipment Monday and anticipates sending more this week.

Individuals with O blood are critically important, BloodCenter of Wisconsin said. O negative and O positive blood types are also needed, as well as platelets.

You can visit any one of the 10 BloodCenter of Wisconsin locations to donate. To schedule an appointment, call 1-877-BE-A-HERO or visit their website here.
