Today a benefit was held at the Green Bay Distillery restaurant for a local woman currently battling a rare blood cancer.
Amie Christensen was diagnosed in 1994 with Polycythemia Vera (PV). It's a rare disease that causes an over production of red blood cells.
Last December, Amie started to develop blood clots in her brain and body that resulted in her being admitted to the hospital repeatedly in extreme pain.
A bone marrow biopsy revealed Amie has Myelofibrosis, which is blood cancer in which scar tissue forms in the bone marrow.
Amie is now at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota awaiting a bone marrow transplant. Thankfully, her own sister Noel is a close match and will be able to donate to Amie.
Money raised at today's benefit will help cover medical and living costs while Amie and her family recover from her transplant.
If you'd like to help, you can make a donation payable to "Benefit for Amie Christensen" at Denmark State Bank.
