"Be Like Bill" meme more than annoying

If you've been on Facebook at least once in the past week, you may have noticed a popular "Be Like Bill" meme floating around. It appears it went viral seemingly overnight, and then soon after warnings spread just as fast that the meme held a potential security risk.

Susan Bach of the Better Business Bureau says the "Be Like Bill" meme is not Clickbait, which often leads to users accidentally downloading malware, but still it resembles a common way third parties try to access your information.

Anything with sensationalized headlines or tantalizing promises of "unbelievable" or "shocking" photos should be avoided.

St. Norbert College media professor Mark Glantz agrees, and says the people behind the generator are utilizing social media to make money. In this case, it could be just getting you to click so you are led to a page with more advertising.

Anytime you enter any personal information, or click "Agree" to a Terms of Service without actually reading it, you could be exposing yourself to something that will collect your personal information, including any financial information.

Turns out "Be Like Bill" probably isn't going to harm your computer, but let it be a lesson to think twice and resist the urge to click.
