BBB warns of new holiday delivery scam

Posted

The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau is warning of a new holiday scam.

Thieves will poses as a delivery company on the phone, and say a package is on the way.

When they show up at the door with a gift basket, the thieves will ask for a “verification fee.”

The thieves will say the basket, which contains a bottle of wine needs to be verified by someone of drinking age, and that they can only accept credit or debit cards.

They will use a hand held scanner, which will actually collect credit/debit card numbers, and PIN and/or security codes.

The BBB reminds customers never to give out their credit or debit card numbers to someone at your door, and to use an established delivery service.

They add to keep an eye out for other variations of scams.
